I’m not a science-fiction fan of the hardcore variety but I have read a good number of books from that part of the bookstore, and I have seen a lot of TV and movies with that label.
I am a fan of Jennifer Connelly, and so this week I will be watching Dark Matter
on Apple TV+ starting May 8. I did listen to the audiobook of the novel by the same name by Blake Crouch and it was a good listen on a long car drive from Maine to the Jersey Shore. Crouch adapted his novel for the screen and is executive producer, and showrunner, so you would expect it to be faithful.
This trailer gives away a few plot points. The leads are Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, and Jimmi Simpson.
Jason Dessen started out as a quantum mechanics physicist, but is now a college physics professor who lives in Chicago with his wife, Daniela, and their son Charlie. One day Jason is kidnapped and drugged and wakes up in a laboratory in a metal cube. He finds himself in an alternate reality.
In this 15-years-ago Chicago, he did not marry Daniela and pursued his career as a physicist where he built the cube that enables the occupants to move between the countless worlds created from every possible outcome of every event.
No more spoilers
I was alerted to this series in a post that talks a bit more about the actual dark matter science, if that interests you, check it out.
