Hello World

I tried a quick take on a writing prompt around the idea of “what if.”  The first thing that came to mind was programming language statements. There isn’t a what / if statement but that’s where I went with the prompt. My title comes from what might be the most famous program. Traditionally, it’s the first program developers use to test systems. As a function, the computer program simply tells the computer to display the words “Hello, World!” For programmers, seeing the two words on the screen means their code can compile, load, and run and they can see the output. Ah, if life only ran as smoothly.

hello world

HELLO WORLD

In the first computer course I took
they taught us to code
and the thing I remember is
the if/then statement.
If something happens
then something else will happen.
It’s cause and effect.
That is the one thing that I learned
that seemed to apply to real life.
Things happen and that leads
to the next thing.
But what if you could read Life
like lines of code?
I would love to be able to debug
my program and write
beautiful code for my future.

WORDSNOW HEART

It is all about words. Your words are enough to shatter someone's heart. Your words are enough to make a broken heart unbroken. Words have the power to change your life perspectives.
